Samantha & Kieran’s Wedding

Milton St Substation

‘We’d known each other for a few years through our football club, but the night we first properly started talking was at a friend’s place on Crate Day playing beer pong.

‘Kieran proposed to me at a SIX60 concert. We were enjoying the music and he was cuddling me and just blurted out, “Will you be my wife?”

‘When it came to choosing a dress, I’d been following Paperswan Bride on socials for a while and I had my eye on their Muse dresses by Chosen by KYHA. They also had a few other dresses I had liked so I picked to go there.

‘I had my heart set on the Muse dress but wanted to go in with an open mind and other options just in case it didn’t suit. It was the first one I tried on and I just loved how it sat and the sparkle of it! I tried on another seven dresses but the Muse was the only one I really felt like myself in.

‘Kieran and I both wear the number 7 on our football jerseys, and it has popped up another few times since we’ve been together, so I really wanted our wedding date to have a 7 in it.

‘I have always loved the industrial look of the Milton Street Substation, and Kieran was interested in having a look too. When we first walked through, we both loved it and had quite a few ideas on what we could create in the space.

‘We wanted our ceremony to show our love for each other, but also keep it fun and light-hearted. We love having a laugh, with and at each other, so wanted that to show in the ceremony. We both wrote our own vows, which our celebrant had printed so we could hang them at home. It was such a nice touch, and to be able to read them all the time is awesome.

‘All of the speeches were amazing, I smiled and laughed so much through them all. Both of our dads spoke, then two groomsmen and two bridesmaids. We split the speeches up with the meal in between. The social platter co. nailed the catering brief. Everything was so tasty and everyone raved about the food.

‘After the first dance everyone mingled and danced the night away and it was such a blast. I love that the photos capture all the fun everyone was having.’

Q&A

Any fun stories to tell?

There was a slight mishap with the cake even before the ceremony started ... Kieran’s grandma couldn’t tell if it was real or fake so thought she would just stick her finger right in the icing on the top. Cue a whole group of people trying to fix it and smooth it all out before I arrived. Then later on in the night someone must have bumped it or leant on it as one side of the cake got severely droopy. Poor cake went through the wars.

Anything you’d do differently, in retrospect?

There are a whole bunch of family photos I wish I had gotten, so I’d take more time to really think about the photo list.

Who was your standout vendor?

Hands down Joseph the photographer! He was so much fun to have around with us all day. And the pictures are AMAZING. All the guests and the bridal party commented on how great he was. He went unnoticed at the right times, just snapping away, but during the group photos he put up with a crazy bunch and made it all so enjoyable. He captured the day perfectly, definitely exceeding expectations!
