Kylie & Nick’s Wedding

‘Nick and I met at work and became friends, which grew naturally into a relationship. Isn’t that what they say, marry your best friend?
‘Nick and I had just purchased land to build our home on. I thought we were going to check out the space and take a photo in front of it with our little fam.
‘When we arrived, Nick asked my daughter Ella if she could take a photo of us. Little did I know she was in on it and was taking a video! Nick then came over and said, “Hold on, I need to show you something first.” He pulled out his phone and showed me a video of Ella, and she said, “Hi Mummy, I’ve said yes and I hope you say yes too!”
‘I was in absolute disbelief and shock! We had talked about getting engaged, but after we had built the house. After a few F bombs and, “Are you serious?” and happy tears I of course said YES!
‘I was straight on all the wedding-related Instagram content as soon as we got engaged. It has always been my dream to get married and plan my own wedding, so I wasted no time diving in deep!
‘The algorithm must have been strong, because a couple of weeks later I had a post pop up which was literally my dream dress and exactly what I imagined myself wearing. The boutique was in Auckland so I started going to a couple of Christchurch boutiques with my maid of honour to try some options on. Nothing ever compared to this dress in Auckland, so naturally, I had to head north!
‘I knew I wanted to get married in summer and 4 February then became a great choice as it would be 4.2.24. It also fell into the long weekend which meant it would be the perfect time for our family to celebrate and party with us. Our venue ended up being at one of my bridesmaid’s parents’ beautiful home. I always knew I wanted the reception to be in a clear marquee covered in fairy lights. A full fairy-tale dream came true.
‘Our ceremony was beautifully written and taken by Liv Webber. She absolutely delivered on our vibe. It was fun and relaxed with plenty of banter and she completely captured and portrayed our love and who we are as a couple. It was even better than I could have imagined.
‘I cried immediately as my aisle song started – the piano version of ‘Sparks Fly’ by Taylor Swift. Even more happy tears came the moment I saw Nick. Nick’s reaction to my dress was one of my favourite parts. In the lead-up he was totally convinced he had guessed which style I would have chosen. He was happy to have been proven wrong.
‘We both wrote our own vows which was my favourite part and was incredibly special. Nick also wrote and read vows to my daughter Ella. This got the tears going for everyone. His words were absolutely beautiful.
‘Our reception was a blast. Our bridal party kicked it all off by entering to ‘Fireball’ by Pitbull and handing out fireball shots! Then Nick and I came in to ‘Pump it Up’ by Endor. Then the speeches kicked off. They were all incredible and hilarious. It was so nice to hear how everyone sees us as a couple.
‘After we snuck away for sunset photos and some photos on the bouncy castle, we did our first dance! This was so special – we put together and learnt a dance, and OMG we nailed the lift and the dip. The party that came after it all was epic. Our friends and family did not disappoint and it was the most special end to such a magical day.’
Q&A
Did you have a budget and did you stick to it?
Yes, we did and we ended up being right on budget! (I did have a hectic spreadsheet!)
Advice for other couples?
Stick to what you want as a couple! All our friends who had just got married did this too, and each wedding was so special as the day perfectly reflected each couple.
Who was your standout vendor?
Our photographer Sophie. She was so incredible not only on our wedding day but also in the lead-up. She helped me with so many questions and putting together the timeline. On the day she was just an absolute vibe. We had so much fun and our photos really reflect that!
