‘We met at The Monday Room in Christchurch, and the rest is history.

‘Baydon proposed while we were on a family holiday on the Gold Coast. We had friends babysitting our kids so we went out for dinner and a show. We ended the night walking along the beach where he got down on one knee and popped the question. It was beautiful. He was so nervous but it was perfect and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.

‘I went to multiple dress places in Christchurch with my bridesmaids. We ended our day at Brides of Merivale, and at this point I had not found the dress yet, so each bridesmaid chose a dress for me just for fun. One of the dresses chosen for me was one I would have never chosen for myself, and I thought it was a joke. It was a sample rack dress and it was perfect. It fit like a glove.

‘Our ceremony started the celebrations perfectly. It was the most perfect day. We had all our friends and family there. My bridesmaids walked down the aisle first, followed by our beautiful babies, Mhia who was five and Louie who was two. They walked down the aisle so well together and when they saw their dad around the corner, they sprinted up to him and gave him the biggest cuddle.

‘The reception was so much fun. After our dance entrance we had speeches and everyone who spoke was so incredible and the speeches were very moving. It wasn’t dragged out at all – it was the perfect combination of funny and emotional.

‘After the speeches, Baydon and I went to have our photos taken in front of the setting sun, and came back for our first dance. The band started and we danced for the rest of the night.’

Q&A

What was your colour scheme?

Mainly white with some black detailing. The idea was to have the venue’s gardens speak for themselves. My bridesmaids were in an emerald green. We found a jacket for Baydon just two weeks before the wedding. Somehow it all just fell into place.

Did you have a budget and did you stick to it?

Mmmm, not really. We had our non-negotiables and wanted to make sure that we got those right: music, booze, food, sit-down meals, etc. We had a large guest list of 180 people so we knew with that many people it wasn’t going to be cheap, but it was so worth it!

Who was your standout vendor?

Kate from The Event Collective was hands down the best decision of our wedding. She was our wedding planner and coordinated the whole day. I felt zero stress in the planning, lead-up and on the day. The whole day was easy with no issues, and no one had to lift a finger. We were able to just enjoy the day and night.
